Experienced Troubleshooting

One of the most common problems with HP Designjet printers is the wearing out of the carriage belt. We stock most belts and can replace yours within one business day. The trailing cable which is the flat wire that connects the carriage to the mainboard is the second most common issue. We keep a good supply of these as well and can replace it for you within one business day. The service station can also be a common problem. If you see a 21:10 error code this means the service station is bad. This is the printhead cleaner and it gets dirty and full of ink debris often. Another common error code is 79:04. This means either the firmware is out-of-date or the printheads are expired. We can update your firmware(if available) and/or replace your printheads. If your machine is less than 5 years old it usually makes sense to repair rather than replace your machine.

Why Servicing Your HP Plotter Now Will Pay Dividends Later

A commitment to regularly service printers is an outlay that some companies embrace - while others wait until a complete cessation of machine life (which normally occurs at the most inconvenient time) until they call out an engineer.

Part of servicing a plotter printer includes clearing out dust and debris from the printer regularly. In certain instances lack of servicing and cleaning can lead to arcing, fumes and sparks which may ignite any combustible materials within the printer. In fact our own engineers have seen this happen onsite several times - and the Power Supply Unit is one of the key areas where this is most likely to occur.

As detailed above, Designjets plotter printers are vulnerable to contamination of dust and debris building up within the machine. We find certain industries or businesses suffer this more than others. Firstly if your working environment isn't as clean as a conventional office - e.g. the Construction/Building/Manufacturing industries or where print volumes are particularly high such as print rooms then you're more likely to require quarterly/6 monthly/annual servicing depending on your print volumes. The higher the dust levels, the more friction and strain on the mechanics which can consequently reduce the lifetime of parts within the plotter.
